The Perkins Museum of Geology is located in Delehanty Hall, on the Trinity Campus of The University of Vermont. The museum is dedicated to presenting geologic concepts and processes to students, scholars, and the interested public in a manner that both informs and entertains. The museum is open to all, free of charge, and is handicapped accessible. For information and reservations please leave a message at (802)656-8694.

The Perkins Museum welcomes groups and individuals of all ages. Admission is free. Please contact the Museum work/study students to leave a message at 656-8694, or send an email to geology@uvm.edu at least one week in advance of your visit to make a reservation. Guided tours are available on a limited basis. Many worksheets and informational handouts are available for general use; these can be requested by sending an email to geology@uvm.edu. Teachers are asked to provide their own copies of these handouts, as well as pencils and clipboards or notebooks for their students. Coats and backpacks may be left in the lobby rather than in the museum itself.

The UVM Perkins Geology Museum is open whenever The University is in session, andis open Monday-Friday 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Summer and vacation hours are variable. Please contact the museum office prior to visiting the Museum, to ensure that it is unlocked.

The Museum can comfortably accommodate groups of up to 20-25 individuals. It is recommended that larger groups split up to avoid crowding. Visitors are welcome to eat lunch in the open space nearby, or among the trees outside Delehanty Hall. No food is allowed in the museum. Restrooms are through the lobby to the left, then down the hallway.

The Geology Department maintains a pile of waste rocks behind Delehanty Hall. Visitors are welcome to collect samples from this pile; visitors are also welcome to add their unwanted specimens to the pile.

Parking

School buses are allowed to park in the gravel lot behind Delehanty Hall. The University provides visitor parking at meters and in designated lots. Four meters are located near the Trinity Campus entrance. Otherwise, the nearest visitor lots are off East Ave, (by the water tower), and at the Waterman Building on South Prospect St. A shuttle bus connects the Trinity Campus with these, and other areas, of The University.

Lessor's Quarry

Groups wishing to visit Lessor's Quarry, in South Hero, Vermont, must make a reservation with the Geology Department by sending an email to geology@uvm.edu. You will receive an email with visitor informaton and safety tips. This is imperative, as the Geology Department regularly uses the quarry for various field trips.
