Parkers Creek
Parkers Creek is located in the center of Calvert
County, and the creek
and the surrounding watershed are managed by the American Chestnut Land
Trust, a small non-profit organization concerned with the
preservation
of farmland, woodlands, and wetlands in a county undergoing rapid
development. The sediments exposed in the sixty to seventy foot thick cliffs adjacent to
Parker Creek represent the Calvert, Choptank, and St. Mary's
Formations, each of which is further subdivided into members and zones. Six fossil assemblage zones are exposed at Parkers
Creek, the most interesting being Shattuck Zone 17, where numerous
mammal bones have been found (Click to enlarge).
